In July 2022, a routine summer day in Moss Point, Mississippi, turned into a terrifying emergency — and an unforgettable act of courage.
A car carrying three teenage girls accidentally drove off a boat launch and plunged into the Pascagoula River. Within seconds, the vehicle began to sink. The girls managed to escape the car and climbed onto the roof, clinging to it as the water rose around them.
The current was strong. Panic set in. Time was running out.
That’s when 16-year-old Corion Evans stepped in.
Corion happened to witness the accident from nearby. Without stopping to think about the danger, he kicked off his shoes, pulled off his shirt, and dove straight into the dark river. One by one, he swam to each girl, guiding them safely back to shore.
His bravery didn’t stop there.
As first responders arrived, a police officer entered the water to help but quickly began struggling against the current. Seeing this, Corion jumped back into the river again — this time to help the officer. Together, they made it back to shore safely.
By the end of the rescue, four lives had been saved.
Local authorities later confirmed the details of the incident. Corion Evans was publicly honored by city officials and the Moss Point Police Department for his extraordinary bravery and selfless actions.
At just 16 years old, Corion showed the kind of courage many never find in a lifetime. His actions reminded the community — and the nation — that heroes can appear without uniforms, titles, or warning.
Sometimes, heroism is simply choosing to act when others are in danger.
