Trump under fire for ‘disgusting’ comment about Karoline Leavitt’s lips

Karoline Leavitt Back in the Spotlight After Trump’s Remarks

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, 28, is once again drawing public attention—this time not for her performance at the podium, but for comments made about her appearance by her boss, 79-year-old President Donald Trump.

Recent Controversy Over Trump’s Comments

In recent weeks, Trump has faced renewed criticism over his treatment of women in the press. During a November exchange with a Bloomberg White House correspondent who questioned him about the Epstein files, he reportedly snapped:

“Quiet, piggy.”

The remark was widely condemned. Days later, he targeted a female CNN reporter, allegedly calling her

“nasty”

and

“stupid.”

Now, Leavitt herself has become part of the discussion. Speaking at a rally in Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, on December 9, Trump singled her out in front of supporters, introducing her as a key member of his team:

“We even brought our superstar today, Karoline. Isn’t Karoline great?”

He then shifted focus to her appearance and presence on television:

“You know, when she goes on television, Fox, like I mean, they dominate, they dominate when she gets up there with that beautiful face and those lips that don’t stop-op-op-op, like a little machine gun.”

Trump went on to suggest that her on-air confidence is partly due to the administration’s policies:

“She’s got no fear… because we have the right policy.”

He contrasted that by listing issues his administration opposes:

“We don’t have men in women’s sports… we don’t have to sell transgender to everybody, we don’t have to sell open borders where the world is allowed to come into our country from prisons and everywhere else – so she’s got a little bit [of an] easier job.”

Strong Online Reactions

The remarks quickly circulated on social media, where many users criticized the way Trump spoke about Leavitt. Advocacy account @CalltoActivism posted:

“🚨BREAKING: Trump points out Karoline Leavitt’s beautiful face and her lips ‘that don’t stop pappaap paapaaap paaap like a machine gun.’ Trump is a disgusting fool.”

Other users expressed discomfort with a president commenting on a young female staffer in such terms:

“Who says *** like this about a female that works for him? It’s beyond creepy and gross.”

One commenter wrote:

“Disgusting. Who talks like that? She should feel cheap and disrespected. Gross.”

Another added:

“Trump reducing a woman to her looks and the sound of her lips is grotesque, juvenile, and horrifyingly predictable.”

Others noted a familiar pattern:

“He certainly doesn’t hide what he thinks of females. Any age.”

Not the First Time He’s Commented on Her Appearance

This is not the first time Trump has publicly remarked on Leavitt’s looks and speaking style. During an October press gaggle aboard Air Force One—following his trip to Israel and Egypt for a peace deal—he shifted from discussing foreign leaders to asking reporters:

“How’s Karoline doing? Is she doing good? Should Karoline be replaced?”

When a reporter replied that the decision was his, Trump responded:

“It’ll never happen. That face… and those lips. They move like a machine gun, right?”

In an August Newsmax interview, he similarly praised her on-air persona:

“She’s become a star. It’s that face. It’s that brain. It’s those lips, the way they move. They move like she’s a machine gun.”

Leavitt’s Public Response and Personal Life

Leavitt has not directly commented on Trump’s specific remarks about her appearance. On social media, she has instead highlighted her work, sharing multiple posts about the Pennsylvania event and recent White House messaging.

She has, however, spoken publicly about her personal life—particularly her relationship with her significantly older husband. In a recent appearance on Pod Force One with Miranda Devine, she was asked:

“Could you not find boys your own age who were as mature?”

Leavitt replied candidly:

“Honestly, no, if you want to know the truth.”

As the debate continues, opinions remain sharply divided: some see Trump’s comments as inappropriate objectification of a young female staffer, while others interpret them as clumsy praise of a loyal spokesperson. What’s clear is that Karoline Leavitt’s role in the administration—and how she is spoken about—has become part of a broader conversation about gender, power, and respect in political workplaces
